Earlier I wrote about a few vegan places or options I want to try while I am in Wellington for a week. I found I couple more:
House of Dumplings make two types of vegan dumplings – Japanese six-mushroom and spinach tofu bok choi – that look and sound amazing. They have two locations the main venu in Taranaki Street and a hole in the wall on Manners. They also deliver frozen online NZ wide, so if they are as good as they say they are … yay!
The have a great artisan handmade sustainable philosophy which unfortunately only goes as far as ‘free-range’, but it should at least make the vegan options deliciously awesome.
According to the menu, not only are there dumplings, there are also sticky soy and ginger tofu skewers, as well as daily greens, noodles and salads – some of which would have to be vegan.
The Hare Krishnas have a vegetarian restaurant called Higher Taste with lots of vegan-friendly dishes and options . They are in the Old Bank Arcade. I have never been there because religions make me nervous, but I looked them up and am unlikely to be persuaded, no matter how sweet they are.
From what I can gather “pure vegetarian” (as they call it) only includes dairy as yoghurt and paneer cheese. Anyway, there are plenty of vegan options on the menu that all sound delicious.
